- Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer
Location: Newcastle upon Tyne
Salary: Circa £40,000 (Negotiable based on experience)
Hours: Full-time, Permanent (35 hours per week)
About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced and driven Design Engineer to join our close-knit team of seven engineers. In this role, you will design and develop products in line with national and international standards, customer specifications, and internal quality benchmarks. This is an opportunity for a professional with hands-on design experience to contribute technically and mentor junior team members.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop products in compliance with ISO 9000, ASME, ANSI, and API standards.
- Perform design calculations and create 3D CAD models and 2D detailed drawings.
- Review technical requirements for quotation packages and customer specifications.
- Attend bid clarification meetings to agree on technical requirements.
- Prepare technical documents for requests for quotations, collaborating with the sales team.
- Respond to customer inquiries and present technical drawings, specifications, procedures, and manuals.
- Provide clear and timely project updates to ensure production deadlines are met.
- Liaise directly with customers during site visits and throughout project lifecycles.
- Mentor and support trainee engineers within the team.
- Proven experience in a mechanical design engineering role.
- Strong knowledge of 3D CAD software (any platform) and 2D drawing standards.
- Proficiency in design calculations and engineering principles.
- Awareness of industry standards such as ISO 9000, ASME, ANSI, and API.
- A proactive, innovative, and motivated mindset with the ability to work independently and under time constraints.
- A collaborative team player capable of mentoring less experienced engineers.
